Fruit Bowl

By Casey Dalicandro

August 27, 2026

Clean and clear sat the glass bowl Shiny and sane it was on the table like a mole Filled with fruit Apples, oranges, pineapples, and strawberries were the four suits Each day the fruit was refilled with love Enough fruit for those to get without a shove The fruit was depended on No one questioned when it was gone The next day it was always refilled Then it would be spilled Strawberries left the bowl silently They were not refilled widely There were no questions No one made a suggestion There was still fruit Pineapples left the bowl quietly They were not added loudly There were no questions No one made a suggestion There was still fruit Oranges left the bowl blindly Tension was growing over the lack of variety No one questioned There were no suggestions Only distractions There was still fruit The bowl left. Apples on the floor No one questioned Fruit was still there When the time came for a fruit refill There was no where to put the fruits It was then that a flute started to trill People asked what were the four suits How did they not remember the four fruits? How did the bowl break? You should know. You watched it break. While greedily eating.
